CAREL and Communities to Address Climate Change

A new project to address climate change is being developed by CAREL and the communities of Los Martinez, El Limon, and El Higuito. Farmers will sequester atmospheric carbon in soil using regenerative organic agriculture.

Regenerative organic agriculture is the only proven technology for removing large quantites of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It also addresses pressing issues of environmental degradation, agricultural collapse, and toxic threats to farmers and consumers. Many farmers recognize the need for change, but need assistance to make the transition.

This pilot project will help farmers select, design and implement model integrated parcels, combining organic food production and rapid soil building. A laboratory will be built in El Limon to measure soil carbon buildup over time.

Office and Classroom Finished
CAREL has completed our classroom and office building in El Limon with support from the OAS, and is offering workshops in micro-hydroelectric technology and wireless rural internet access.
